Black Outer Door, not the stainless skin version

I bought this for our kitchen as it was the first low profile oven that really fit our need. Lot of room under it and we really only needed a microwave for reheat and occasional defrost and cook type of items. It only took about a month for small lines to start showing up on the black plastic area under the MW window on the front. Since that time we are now at the point where small pieces of black plastic are falling off of the door and the plastic is combining loose from the door. Generally, I would have expected this plastic to be phenolic or some other material like is used on the freestanding ovens where the handle is attached on the front of the oven door. These never have heat related issues with plastic cracking. Even in self-clean model, one never sees heat related cracks over the like of the appliance which is 10 years. MW have a 5 year life but for us with limited use as a a microwave, I would have expected twice that for the door assembly. Especially the esthetic trim. Purchased at Best Buy which shipped from warehouse/mfg direct to our house. Now kind of stuck finding a way to have this resolved. A new door would be fine if it is better quality and won't crack just because my wife uses the stove to cook underneath it.

Replaced vent hood with this low profile microwave. Very satisfied with looks and performance. Very modern appearance and features. Has actual multiple speed vent fan. Most microwaves that I have owned, you couldn't differentiate between speeds. This one is different. Multiple lighting levels for over the stove top. Got the unit with LED lights vs halogen lights for energy consumption and heat levels. Very satisfied with this microwave.

I admit that I don't enjoy mechanical sounds, so consequently the air fan is a bit too noisy for my liking, but I appreciate that it has a job to do. We have had our above the range MW for 2 months and we really like it in that location and all the cooking features it has which are very easy to access. One suggestion with this type of MW you should invest a few dollars in a 10 to 12 inch round silicon pad to lift hot bowls out in a safer manner.

I had wanting an over the oven microwave for years but did not want to change my kitchen cabinets to have one installed. I spotted the Whirlpool Low Profile microwave while Christmas shopping. It was love at first sight!! Literally!!! My husband saw me drooling over this microwave and snuck out and purchased it for me for Christmas. There was an issue with the install - the pre-affixed screws inside the oven thru the outer casing used to install the over - one was stripped out. My husband had to disassemble the bad one and more or less make a new one. Once the installation nightmare was over I was in heaven!! I LOVE this microwave. Can't say enough good things about it! Love it!!

Over The Stove Microwave

We bought this and had it installed a little less than a month ago and so far it has worked very well. We have a small kitchen with very little counter space and did not have the recommended distance above our stove for a full size microwave without some cabinet cutting. This low profile microwave is the perfect size. The only two things we have noticed is heating cold items seems to take a little longer compared to our old microwave. The other is the distance it sticks out from our cabinet. But it is vent less and I know the vents have to be somewhere. Other than that it seems to be a great products. Love the extra counter space.

I'm glad we got this slimline to replace our old microwave. My only problem is with the install. It appears their electrician forgot to vent to the outside using my existing vent. I need to call Lowe's to ask for a different installer to come out to fix it by doing it correctly.

I bought this to replace an existing above the store microwave. I liked the concept of the slimmer profile to have more space above the stove. Installation was simple. It heats up food a ton better than my old unit which was only 6 years old. It seems to pulse the heat so no more exploding veggies when heating up soup. Its also much quieter than my old microwave. It does stick out further than my old microwave but since its slimmer it feels more hood-like. Also the inside isn't nearly as tall as a conventional microwave but so far I haven't had any issues fitting items in.

Perfect size

We purchased this a month ago to free up counter space from our counter top microwave. So glad we did. The cost was a bit higher then a traditional over the range microwave but the reduced height of the new microwave combo make it so much nicer to access items on the cook top of the range. The only issue is the keypad is located behind the door. It just takes a few times before you are conditioned to not shut the door before you set the time. The trade off, a very nice clean face on the unit.

Recently we purchased a older home with some renovation challenges in the kitchen. We liked some things about the 1970s kitchen but others need to be improved upon. For example, the stove top, electric at the time, needed to be updated to gas to make more user friendly when current is out. Also, due to lack of countertop a microwave over the stovetop seemed like the way to go. However once the gas top was installed there was the issue with the safe space that was needed and the need for a vent over the stove to help with exhaust fumes. Thanks to Whirlpool innovation we got a great deal on a Low Profile Microwave hood Combo that was ideal for our challenging situation! Not to mention it gave a sweet, fresh new look to an outdated kitchen and solved all of all issues! You rock Whirlpool!!!

So far pretty good, my one complaint so far is the reheat feature is not very clear to use and when I check the manual for instructions- it did not explain anything further so a little lost on how to best use that feature

New Microwave

I bought this about a month ago. Needed exactly what this has to offer....since we were remodeling the kitchen. Perfect....BUT I think it is too expensive at $ 400 for most people.

Great space saver with features

I replaced a "normal" above the range microwave and I love the space this one saves. With the old one I had to lean over to see the back burners of the stove. This one gives much more space and looks sleek and modern. The outside is shiny and I'm hoping it keeps that look; I'll only clean it with the softest cloth. Everyone who comes into my kitchen it intrigued by it and wants to touch the open button. It's very clever. My one complaint is with the installation instructions, which are awful. Whirlpool did a very clever thing in making the back plate to also serve as the template for drilling the holes into the cabinet. The problem is that the directions don't make this clear. After I watched a couple of YouTube videos, it was easy to install. The microwave is heavy and definitely requires two people to lift as the directions say. With all the space, I don't feel that this microwave is too small. It has plenty of power and hold cooks everything I want to cook. it has plenty if features though I don't yet understand the sensor function. I now want a slide in range to really enjoy the space.

I'm pleased with my new low profile microwave. It looks so modern in my little kitchen. I like the night light feature too. I would have liked back drop lighting for the outside control pads or at least raised dots for touch.

Missing features that have been around for years

We bought the Black finish. It is a hi-gloss plastic finish that will scratch if you rub your fingers on it. It doesn't seem to have the Cook Level 1 and 2. It also doesn't show what power level it is currently cooking on after you press Start. I also miss the quick entry of 1, 2, 3, etc. . . minute cooking times. You have to enter 1 and 0 and 0 to get 1 minute.

Incredible microwave

We have a small, older kitchen that could not use a standard size over the range microwave/hood combination. This low profile solution is a perfect fit for our space and allowed us to free up counter space that was being taken up by a counter top microwave. Even though it is a lower profile, we are still able to microwave standard size items.
