Defective Appliances and faulty Wi-Fi Apps

After purchasing at Home Depot, it took over 6 months to get delivery. This range was apparently on back order and holding everything up. We purchased 4 major Whirlpool appliances well over $6,000. This Wi-Fi application has never worked as advertised with these appliances. It took several months of trial and error just to connect the appliances to Wi-Fi. Lessons learned: you may need to use the WPS feature on your router to connect. Therefore the WPS feature on your router must be enabled through your router settings online. Secondly and even more technical, you may need to connect to your appliance IP through the Internet with a laptop or PC from your home network before you can connect via any mobile devices. In summary Wi-Fi connection to your appliances using this app is far to technical and complicated for the average appliance owner and then only the primitive features are available. Only Minimal Wi-Fi features are functional. The application will not allow setting any of the appliance specific "preferences" without returning the error code "Error updating appliance preferences. Please try again later".... Later has come and gone over the past year. I have submitted several work orders with whirlpool that have only wasted my time without any resolution. Previous open tickets with Whirlpool tech support have been closed without resolving the issue. They did not contact me in regard to any of the open tickets they closed. I later discovered that they may have tried but they use a RoboCaller protocol which is blocked by my phone service carrier as well as several other carriers and consumers. I have told them several times not to contact me from blocked robocalls or from the same number. This only makes a convenient excuse for Whirlpool's failed attempts to contact the consumer. Checking for software updates via this app will crash the application and you will need to force close the application. The software update seems to be unresponsive from the preferences menu. It just says loading for a few seconds and disappears without any update notices. When you go back one menu then the software update notice finally appears stating software is up to date. The "dismiss notice" radio button does nothing and the application becomes unresponsive (crashes). You must then force close the application and log back in. The Whirlpool tech support frequently fails to correctly identify these issues. So there can simply be no resolve if the issue is not accurately identified. I get an overwhelming perception that Whirlpool tech support Representatives simply don't care. This has been the case for several help tickets. Today I spoke with a Whirlpool representative again who failed to listen and continuously spoke over me with erroneous feedback and unskilled understanding of the problem. He eventually initiated an argument with me until I demanded to speak with a lead. The lead however was receptive and effectively documented the problem. These Wi-Fi appliances along with this application were chosen to improve the quality of life for a disabled Veteran with traumatic head injuries. He needs the advantages of Wi-Fi augmented devices to cook and clean however this defective application and the inability of Whirlpool to effectively and efficiently resolve systemic technical problems has become a real nightmare for this Veteran who has invested his savings of $6,000 on worthless mobile application enabled appliances. After the Whirlpool techs did something online with the range, it is no longer operating at all. The controls are now Locked and the display is unresponsive to any human interaction except turning on the oven lamp. I waited since last week for an exchange approval because parts are on back order. They called this week using the robocaller again so per voicemail I missed their call again. I called back immediately only to wait 25 minutes on hold and another 29 minutes to sort things out. I have no idea how long until delivery this time. (Last time was 6 months). These faulty new appliances and delivery delays have caused me to cancel thanksgiving at my home for 2 years in a row. I would strongly advise looking elsewhere for Wi-Fi enabled appliances. Whirlpool Corp is clearly lagging far behind in this age of technology in that regard

KNOBS ARE HORRIBLE

I am very dissatisfied on the style of the knobs. It is very hard to see the engraving on the knobs. There is a shadow that makes it very hard to see. The engraving should be darker for ease of seeing your temps, etc I called Whirlpool to see if I could exchange the knobs for a different style, they informed me that they did not have different knobs

Major Safety Issue/Poor Design

purchased this electric "smart" range oven a year ago. We've had two main issues. First, sometimes we can't turn off the oven. Yes, you read that correctly. We have to flip our circuit breaker to turn it off. Second, my husband accidentally dropped a small spice container on the touch control panel. The panel completely shattered and sent chards of glass across our floor. A repairman came out today, charged us $109 and didn't have the new part. Who comes out, charges money, and does nothing? He came out to tell us the part was backordered. It could be weeks or months before we can use our oven again. The little pieces of glass affect the control panel, meaning that yesterday morning the oven turned on by itself. We had to flip the circuit breaker again. In addition, the little chards of glass are absolutely everywhere. We have vacuumed and swept every day. My husband had to go to Urgent Care to have glass removed from his foot. The glass panel should be made not to send tiny pieces everywhere. So, now in addition to the $600 to replace the part. We had to pay a doctor additional money to remove glass from my husbands foot. It's just not worth it. This oven dangerous and I regret purchasing it.

Unit has been in use for 6 months, had to power cycle unit 5 times to operate contro;s after they "froze" rendering oven inoperable. Service call ordered, tech not familiar with this new unit smart controls. Canceled follow up visit when unit operated normally,Has now required power cycle again, another service scheduled. Would not recommend this unit. We bought refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, washer, dryer, and this range for our new home. range, in fairness, has been only problem.

Beautiful Piece of NON-FUNCTIONING NOTHING

Replaced by BESTBUY and the replacement malfunctions. (1) On the first use the stove the electrical element caused a hot burn-in of the glass. Seems as if the heating element was installed making direct contact to glass. BestBuy replaced stove. (2) Skip forward 4 months, the "touch" screen has stopped working. Touchscreen is non-responsive to touch. Can't use the oven. The Whirlpool customer service response "just shut off your breaker or pull stove out periodically when this happens, plug out the stove and it 'should hopefully' reset." (3) The stove vents the oven at the top rear, and the paint used on venting area appears not to be heat resistant paint. The oven heat and venting moisture is causing the paint to peel off and the area to rust. The Whirlpool customer service response, "this is a cosmetic issue not covered by warranty." COME ON WHIRLPOOL THIS STOVE QUALITY IS NOT WORTHY OF CARRYING YOUR BRAND NAME. WE BUILD AND SELL HOMES. WE WILL NOT BUY ANYMORE OF THIS STOVE.

Very disappointed for the money I spent!!!

Screen went off in the middle of cooking dinner, now it is ruined. Only way to get screen to work is to turn one of the burners on and then it finally boots up. Even though the burner is on, it actually is not and never gets hot. The oven will not turn off either. Not happy and it is only 6mths old....should have known better than to buy the first smart oven on the market. So much for buying all top of the line Whirlpool appliances....smh I kind of wonder when the microwave is going to do the same thing.

After using the oven three times, the oven will not turn off without turning off our breaker box. Parts need to be ordered, then an install appointment needs to be setup. We have already been without a working oven for 1 week and it will be at least 2 more weeks until the problem is possibly fixed. We purchashed 4 Whirlpool appliances and have had problems three of them in the first month.

I hate this stove.

I purchased this stove a little over 6 months ago, in August 2018. I hate this stove. It was a total waste of money. The control panel is ridiculous. Not user friendly. It freezes and locks up to the point that you have to kill the circuit breaker to regain control of the oven. In the event that even the slightest drop of moisture hits the screen it completely goes haywire. I have had the stove turn itself on, to roast a lamb, by itself, when we weren't even using the appliance; walked into the kitchen, and there it was at temp, saying cooking lamb. It has switched itself to store demo mode twice, at which point you want to smash it with a hammer trying to get it back out of store demo mode. It bakes so uneven, and I have to add time to every recipe I have ever baked. Baking now is a complete guessing game. Nothing ever cooks in what any recipe calls for. The timer chime, if you arent standing in front of it, you will never hear it. In December 2018, a little over 3 months after I purchased this stove, the front control panel and the inner control panel were both replaced under warranty. I was told at the time I essentially had a new oven as the brains were completely changed out. I was also told that day, when I was complaining about the front panel going haywire if it gets wet, or when its being wiped down, "oh you can't get that wet". Who has ever heard of s stove top that can't get wet? Moisture happens when you cook, pots boil over and spit. Its so Frustrating. The control panel is always messed up. Since the day the control panels where replaced, I've never been able to reconnect to the whirlpool app even though the stove says it is connected. I finally called today about that, out of frustration, and while on the phone the screen locked up yet again, and had to reboot with the circuit breaker, which at least led to the whirlpool tech saying you need service. So now I have a technician coming here again next week, for the 2nd time in less than 3 months on a $2000 stove that's only 6 months old. I am about ready to cut my losses and junk this thing and purchase yet another new stove. If I could return it I would, in a second. Don't buy this stove. You'll regret it as much as I do I'm sure.

I night this range 6 months ago and not happy with feature like aqua cleaning. We use it heavy and we need deep self cleaning oven. Aqua cleaning ie worthless. Would not recommend and would not buy again.

Have been using this for 2 months & wishing I had made a different purchase. The touch control is poorly designed. I am constantly turning it on or off accidentally. The screen freezes while I am baking, doesnt return to the main screen after timer is set or temp is adjusted so I have no idea if the oven is on or not or at the correct temperature. Weve reset it at the breaker twice & still have issues. The timer at its loudest is so quiet I can only hear it if Im right in front of the stove. The remote option is a joke. The manual knobs are difficult to read & turn. The stove burners work well & heat quickly. Oven bakes unevenly.

a beautiful stove

Because the stove had a tiny tiny dent in the side kick panel, i bought this stove at a very discounted price. (so i hadn't purchased this stove for its features but rather because of that special price.) i had had a glass top stove before so i knew the pros and cons and decided i could live with the extra cleaning detail such a stove top requires. lowes sells a cleaning kit that i wish i had had with my previous glass top stove. the razor blade tool helps a lot. as others have already indicated in their reviews, the display screen that shows the time is very attractive BUT yes it is very sensitive. when my appliance was installed (we installed it ourselves) the screen was in french. no worries, the menu on the screen is pretty easy to work with, even in french (!). within a minute i had the screen back to english. but that said, watch out! the first time i used the oven i accidentally turned the oven off and didn't realize it for several hours. now i realize i had accidentally turned the power off when i was wiping up a spill near the screen where the power "button" is. the device sends up a message to let you know you've turned the oven light on or off, so it would be nice to have a display like that to indicate the oven is now being turned on or off. yes, the warming drawer is shallower than any i have seen and yes it is not as heavy duty as the rest of the stove. but i also realize that the larger oven capacity gains space because the drawer is shallower than a typical drawer. what does astound me though is that a slide-in stove is not automatically sold with the gap trim that you'll need to truly complete the installation. we'll be several weeks with slight gaps on the side and back until appropriate trim is delivered. i haven't self-cleaned the oven and i read the reviews regarding this issue. myself, i have never liked the ovens with the intense self cleaning features, so i am prepared to accept however the "self clean" works. (again, i was able to purchase this stove for a great price so i am willing to deal with a few compromises.) i also read about the stove knobs. they are large but not so easy to read. the knobs that run the burners with several sizes require you turn the knob one way to control the double burner, and turn it the other way to operate only the single burner. ha, everyone who has come over to try out my stove has had to bend over and squint to properly read the knobs. the timer is pretty to hear but impossible to hear unless you are near the unit when the timer goes off. there is a volume control for the timer and i have it at the maximum level. for those of you who intend to install the unit yourself, we found the installation booklet to be incomplete and after visiting with the knowledgeable crew at lowes we were able to properly deal with the wiring issues required to complete the installation.

I bought this unit a month ago. I rated poor for ease of use and performance. The LCD screen doesn't The prints on the control knob are not very legible, big or bright print and makes it more worse since it's hidden below the LCD Console surface. The middle burner meant for only 'warm' is a absolute waste. I wish there was one big burner at the rear. LCD screen malfunctions, the screen freezes quite often and I cannot turn on the oven. Also, to turn off the oven, there isn't proper indication that the oven is turned off. Also the timer alarm is very inaudible. The surface on LCD console and the stove top is very hard to clean.

Don't cross the Touch Panel!

Purchased in July. When cooking for Thanksgiving had a problem with the touch panel. If you reach across it to stir anything on a burner, the screen clears. You have to guess how long what is in the oven, has been there. The cool down fan made so much noise that repair came and after several weeks of waiting for the ordered part, it was replaced and now is fine. I called yesterday to Whirlpool and after waiting 22 minutes, had a person who had no resolution for the Touch screen issue. I will have to be very cautious when baking a cake etc and not reach across the front panel since it is so sensitive. It will clear! It is not a self cleaning! Water added! Not what self cleaning previously meant.Thank you for asking.

still emits odor and knobs horrible

So far not so happy..the factory smell when baking is still emitting chemical odors which they say in manual is normal after a couple of uses...it still smells horrible and have to open windows when cooking. Also can't see the writing on the stove knobs...have to use a flash light to make the writing. And i have excellent vision.

It's a nice looking range and fine to cook on. The timer seems like a bit of a disaster. We turned the timer volume up all the way and there's simply no way you're going to hear it from another room. My hearing is just fine. Maybe mine is defective, but in my opinion, a timer should be loud enough to insist you check in on it. I hope it's something that can be fixed with a software update, but I am doubtful.

Overall the stove is good, however a poor design of overhang lip on top, makes viewing the markings on the eye knobs hard to see. After only a month, oven lightbulb is out and had to be replaced.

Great oven, but...

Have had this for 6-7 months. The scan to cook feature proves to be nothing more than a novelty, the touch screen is nice, but a splash spill or spot near the screen can press buttons for you. The oven had started to preheat itself after we were going to bed because of a dried on spot near the screen. You can't turn the timer off, if you silence the timer it still goes on every minute unless you completely cancel the cooking setting(turn off Bake, Broil, etc...) Also the timer sound is strange, I'd prefer something more classic and noticeable, it's WiFi enabled, couldn't they make a few more noises to download or something

I got this range for my elderly parents in November. It looks fantastic. I setup the smart oven and integrating it into Alexa for them and it it works great after a little training. The oven is huge (but you do lose some space for storage underneath.) Now my areas for future improvements: 1) The large burner is in the front. This is the one my mother uses the most and would prefer it in the back where is it away from stray fingers. Maybe to have an option for rangers with large burner either in front or in back. 2) The smart feature is only for the oven. It would be great to expand that to control the stove top burners as well. That way you could check if a burner is left on. Or set it on a timer. Or give an alarm that it is getting too hot and shut it off. Or control/check it with Alexa. 3) Would be nice to have an induction model option. 4) This model does not have an overlap on the counter edges so stuff will fall/spill down the sides if the range. Including a small edging that matches the cooktop and can just fix in the gap with be a nice addition.

The oven has been great so far. The only complaint would be that when you purchase this oven the stainless steel parts that go around the oven to cover the cracks should come standard because it doesn't make sense that you would use this without them.

Self cleaning feature is disappointing

The Aqua lift cleaning technology is very disappointing. I would not have bought this product had I know how poorly it cleans. I would imagine Whirlpool will abandon this feature in the future. Quite simply, it does not work.
