I love my Kitchen Aid, but this really does chip. Found a lot of tiny pieces in my cookie dough.

Love my mixer, hate the Coated Flat Beater

Submitted by Marin - 10/13/2019

I use my mixer a lot and really like it. The beater is another matter. The mixer has been in storage a long while because we moved house twice and didn't have room. I was very excited to start using it about 6 months ago. Bit by bit there have been "bits" of plastic falling off the beater. Yesterday a 1/2" chunk came off in my pound cake. now it's unusable.

Paint Chips!

Submitted by KimberlyLSeattle - 10/9/2019

I have owned my KitchenAid stnad mixer for 25 years. It's a great mixer that gets lots of use. In those years, the motor has never died. After 23 years, my paddle attachment needed to be replaced. I purchased a new, KitchenAid paddle. Now, 2 years laterm I need to replace it! The paint is chipping off, and ruined a cake I was making. It's funny how the first paddle lasted 23 years, and this new one lasted 2 years! I need a new paddle, but I'm hesitant to buy another.

Beater chipping

Submitted by LJH52 - 9/30/2019

I love this mixer but I am very disappointed with the beater. I used it a lot this past week and noticed the paint is chipping off. I noticed after I had made a large batch of cookies. I am concerned those pieces of paint ended up in the cookies that were served. I was hoping to replace it with a stainless steel one but it doesn't appear that there is one for this model.

My beater chipped.

Submitted by PennyAnn - 9/12/2019

I love my mixer, can't do without it. I have noticed my beater is chipped and I'm scared to use it. So very disappointed that this is preventing me from using my mixer. Kitchen Aid needs to make this better. With this being a pricey mixer this should not happen.

Beater paint chips

Submitted by Jeanie1026 - 9/12/2019

I love my kitchen aid and have purchased one for each of my three daughters. An appliance that everyone needs! However, like many of the other reviewers said, I've got pieces of paint that has chipped off my beater. For such a pricey appliance, this should not happen. Cringe at the thought that I've served cookies or cakes with paint chips baked inside. This needs to be corrected. I've built a new house and chose all kitchen aid appliances. Please get this corrected!

Poorly made

Submitted by Ss123 - 8/9/2019

I have only used my mixer a handful of times and the paint has already chipped off the coated beater. I now can no longer use it as I don't want paint in my food! Of course it's not under warranty and it makes me upset I have to go and spend more money on a product that is already costly and should last after gentle hand washing!

Flat Beater Chips

Submitted by Ruby01 - 3/21/2019

I love, love, love my Kitchen Aid Mixer. But the coated flat beater chips so I can't use it. I've replaced it several times ( I can't find a metal one like the whisk beater) and each one chips. I don't understand why Kitchen Aid doesn't fix this problem. I'm tired of buying new flat beaters! Maybe time to try another brand of stand mixer. After all, the flat beater is a much used accessory.

Beater included in box does not fit on the mixer

Submitted by 777Disappointed - 2/18/2019

I received a new stand mixer for Christmas and was thrilled until I went to use it. The flat beater included with the mixer does not have an opening large enough to fit on the mixer head. The other two attachments (Whip and dough hook) fit fine. The flat beater opening is too narrow and it cannot be attached!

Coating Wears Off Over Time

Submitted by snatarajan - 1/2/2019

I was given my KitchenAid stand mixer as a wedding gift (May 1999). About 4-5 years ago the coating on the bottom of this flat beater started to wear off. I continued to use it, but eventually enough of the coating was worn off that I decided to toss it. I really miss this attachment and I've been without it for over a year. Came on the website to order another one and realized that so many folks are having the same problem with the coating wearing off. Is there an option to purchase a stainless steel flat beater?

Multi-Purpose....but it is not flawless

Submitted by MsD622 - 12/28/2018

This is the 2nd replacement for this size beater. Sadly, it did the same thing the first one did. It is wearing at the bottom. It does not hit the bottom of the bowl and it is not used everyday for this kind of wear. We use a small rubber tipped spatula to remove any dough or batter that is left on the beater. We treat this beater as if it is made of glass.

Coating is chipping away

Submitted by Vickyflamingo - 12/27/2018

This is my second flat beater and the coating is chipping away on this one too. Its apparent that from other reviews this is definitely a problem and needs attention. I need another beater but don't want to buy one only to have it chip like the first two. Have you considered a stainless steel beater with no coating? Vicky B

Submitted by lvab - 12/18/2018

I'm looking to replace the flat beater to my nearly 30 year old mixer for the 4th time. It doesn't seem right that the paint continues to chip off each time I get a replacement. I've noticed multiple reviews with the same problem. My mixer is still working wonderfully, but these beaters are disappointing in their quality.

My precious KitchenAid is losing its coating on the flat beater. It's kind of bubbled other places which I don't remember seeing before. I've recommended this beater for ages. I saved up to buy this about a decade ago and was so proud of having such a sturdy efficient product.

Submitted by PAKath - 12/5/2018

By accident some fabric softener spilled into my mixer while it was being stored. I didn't realize it soon enough, but when I next used the mixer and cleaned the attachments the enamel chipped off the flat beater. The other attachments cleaned up very easily. I'll definitely have to replace the beater. I never used it! I use the beater with the spatula attached.

Both the flat beater and the dough hook have the paint chipped. I bought a second set from amazon, original from factory, still chipped. Not only this is not safe to use and by the time I noticed, some of my family members have already eaten the bread. So disappointing that the attachments do not work.

paint chips and leaves gray streaks in my food.

Submitted by shellystephens1 - 10/15/2018

I received this as part of an attachment set that came with the mixer my family bought me for Christmas. I use my mixer a lot with this attachment but have noticed the last couple times that it has left gray streaks in my food and that the paint is wearing off of the bottom and sides of the beater. This beater did a great job but now ruins everything I make with it. I have read all of the instructions and cleaning warnings but without a doubt the gray streaks are coming from this beater.

Paint flavored cookies anyone?

Submitted by Mamaroses - 12/7/2017

I received my mixer as a wedding gift 18 years ago. My first beater lasted 16 years! (I was always very careful to hand wash my beater; never ran it through the dishwasher). 2 years ago the paint started to chip just a little, so I purchased a replacement. Almost immediately the new one started to chip, too. Foolishly I kept using it instead of contacting customer service ASAP. Just this week while making cookies, a huge chunk of the coating came off and now my beater is useless. I contacted customer service, questioning why my original beater lasted 16 years but this one didn't even last 2. I was told "The accessories are considered a normal replacement part of the mixer much like a belt in a vacuum." I was also given 3 tips "to extend the life of the coated accessories," which are rules/suggestions that I was already following. Super disappointed in this. Surely something can be done!!

Chipped upon purchase!

Submitted by JMG777 - 12/5/2017

I just purchased this Kitchenaid Mixer (#K45SS) a week ago (just mailed my warranty card early yesterday) and was so excited to begin using it. I had all the ingredients for my first project ready to go. I washed all the accessories by hand, and that's when I noticed there was already a chip of paint missing on this particular beater. I was disappointed to be sure. Looks like I'll be needing to purchase a new beater from the start. I was making cookies this morning that are needed for later today (if I'd have had the time, I would have returned/exchanged the entire mixer)! Looking at all these reviews, I'm definitely not the only one. Kitchenaid - surely you can do better.

Good product, but doesn't fit OLD models of K45SS

Submitted by Jeff from NC - 11/30/2017

Purchased this blade as a replacement for one that was lost during a move. We have a K45SS that was passed down from my parents (probably purchased sometime in the 70s), has worked great for 40 years, and still does with the whisk and dough hook. The issue with this product is that the rotating shaft of the mixer is too big for the hole of the paddle.

9/16/2017

I love my KitchenAid mixer. I got it as a present from my husband and honestly, it has been wonderful with the exception of the paddle. It has chipped paint at the top and the bottom rendering it useless. I am really frustrated by it since the machine itself cost a small fortune. I should not have to replace the part!

Coated beater chipping off in food

3/24/2017

I have had my Kitchen Aide mixer for a number of years and love everything about it EXCEPT the coated beater. I have replaced the beater twice, only hand wash it, and STILL the coating comes off and gets into the food. My brother found some in his mashed potatoes at a holiday gathering! It is difficult to find a replacement beater, as all of the ones in the stores are designed for newer model mixers. Please advise on how to remedy this problem.

mine didn't chip until.. try adjusting the beater's height?

2/7/2017

I've used my coated flat beater, literally, for 36 years before it chipped. That's 36 years of constant use, several times a week, efficiently scraping the lower curves of the bowl. However, I've recently moved from San Diego to Oregon, and when I put by mixer back together, I didn't realize the height or tilt adjustment was off.. it was hitting the bottom. Eventually did chip. So, for those of you concerned about purchasing this attachment due to the other reviews.. perhaps double-checking the beater height (i.e., the mixer head tilt adjustment) before first use would preclude the chipping issue.

Paint chipping off beater

12/24/2016

I have always wanted a kitchen aide mixer and was pleased when I received one for a gift last year. I have only used it a half dozen times and the white coating is missing on the bottom Iasked for a replacement beater this year and was told it only comes with the coating for my machine. I am upset that there is not another option! After all the negative reviews I am not sure kitchen aide is willing to stand by its product.

Beater paint chips off

12/17/2016

I'm disappointed in the poor quality of this beater since the paint is chipping off and getting into the food. The replacement options, based on the reviews, do not seem very promising. What can't Kitchen Aid make a high quality product like they did many years ago?
